About the event
The Annual Hoosier Herpout returns on Saturday, May 16 at 9:30 AM at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area (Hoosier National Forest), Monroe Reservoir near Bloomington, IN. Meet at Shelter House #1 by the boat launch parking lot.
This member-favorite event is a full day of field herping in one of Indiana’s most scenic and biodiverse regions. We’ll head out shortly after 9:30 AM to explore local habitats, then return around noon for a group cookout. After lunch, we’ll head back out for more herping and hiking.
Expect a variety of native reptiles and amphibians—with the possibility of encountering venomous species. Please wear appropriate gear, use insect repellent (ticks can be active), and herp responsibly. Participation is at your own risk.
HHS will provide burgers and hot dogs—please bring a side dish and your own drinks.
Camping is available at Hardin Ridge (Class A and B sites), and some members plan to stay…
