Crawfish Frog

Description
A stocky, boldly dark-spotted frog that lives most of the year down a crayfish burrow. Its deep, snoring call carries from a few southwestern Indiana grasslands.

Feeds on insects (beetles, centipedes, etc.)
Habitat
Prairies, pastures, and meadow situations to wet woodlands and floodplains.
Reproduction
Heavy rainfall and warm temperatures initiate breeding activity in March to mid-April. Utilizes temporary fishless pools, prairie wetlands, and shallow ditches as breeding habitat. Males congregate and call to attract females.
