Aquatic insects, mollusks, crayfish, and some aquatic vegetation.
Habitat
Large rivers and backwaters with slow current and basking logs.
Reproduction
Lays 8-22 eggs in sandy banks in early summer, sometimes producing more than one clutch per year.
